Job Description:

Our client, a leading bank in the financial services sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer with strong card payments domain expertise to join their team on a 12-month contract in Sandton.

This role is suited to a senior professional who has driven end-to-end business process transformation within card issuing, acquiring, or payment processing environments, and who understands the operational, regulatory, and technical complexities of card-based ecosystems.

Role Purpose

To drive both strategic and tactical process engineering initiatives by discovering, validating, documenting, and optimising business processes across the card payments value chain.

The successful candidate will model, simulate, and analyse current and future state processes, focusing on complex business outcomes and leveraging technology to enable process automation, integration, and performance improvement — aligned to the bank's broader payments strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end process discovery and optimisation initiatives within card payments environments.

  • Assess, map, and redesign processes across:

    • Card issuing and acquiring

    • Authorization and switching

    • Settlement and reconciliation

    • Disputes and chargebacks

    • Regulatory and compliance workflows

  • Define and tailor the business/process engineering approach across the full project lifecycle.

  • Scope, size, and plan business aspects of solutions, including effort estimation and dependency management.

  • Facilitate workshops (including executive-level stakeholders) to gather requirements, validate future-state designs, and drive alignment.

  • Develop detailed process models using industry standards (e.g., BPMN, ECP).

  • Identify automation opportunities using workflow, business rules engines, and integration technologies.

  • Contribute to business cases and transformation roadmaps.

  • Support change management initiatives to ensure successful adoption of redesigned processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Process Engineer / Business Analyst within a banking or financial services environment.

  • Mandatory experience in card payments (issuing and/or acquiring).

  • Proven track record delivering formal projects involving:

    • Business process transformation

    • Process automation

    • Document management technologies

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end process performance in complex, regulated banking environments.

  • Experience applying formal business process modelling or business analysis methodologies.

  • Hands-on experience with BPMN and/or ECP process modelling standards.

  • Strong workshop facilitation experience (including senior stakeholders).

  • Above-average proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).

Technical & Domain Knowledge

Exposure to and understanding of:

  • Business Process Reengineering (BPR)

  • Workflow / Process Automation platforms

  • Business Rules Engines

  • Enterprise Content Management

  • Enterprise Application Integration

  • Business Intelligence, Analytics & Reporting

  • Regulatory requirements within card payments

Advantageous Skills

  • Understanding of Enterprise Architecture and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).

  • Experience using Use Cases to specify business and system requirements.

  • Working knowledge of UML for collaboration with architects and system analysts.

  • Basic data modelling knowledge and ability to run SQL queries.

  • Experience working within large-scale banking transformation initiatives.
